Composer Karthik Sharma is one of the most popular names in television and he is thrilled about his upcoming Kannada film
Lanke as it is his first out and out commercial film. The music of the film is out and is already popular among the masses.
"We have four songs, each of them being from a different genre. While this is my fourth film officially, this is my first official mass film. So, I enjoyed not just the songs but the background score too. There are as many as six fights in the film and I have tried to give each of them different themes and sounds, ranging from rock to folk to classical," shares Karthik.
While this is a massy soundtrack, Karthik shares how he tried to bring in a bit of himself. "My briefing for this film was to not do anything experimental and just keep it massy. While composing mass music can be challenging, this team made it easy as there was no stress. The other fun thing about doing massy scores is that there is nothing to prove, while experimental music can always leave you second guessing. So, this has been a fun experience and the team has been a big contribution to that. I'm glad the songs have been received well and am hoping the film is too," adds he.
Given how Karthik has been the name behind some of the top television serial scores like
Puttagowri Maduve, how does he perceive the difference between television and films. "The options are limitless in films, while television serials usually require us to function within a possible template and I've tried all the possible innovations in that forte. So, I am eager to show more of my talent in films. In television, the biggest challenge is that you need to prove your mettle with that 10 second hook of a title track. In cinema, there is more time, but the challenge is that there are options, so one can easily move on from a song. I'm looking forward to the journey ahead," he adds.
