Amal Neerad had recently said that there was an “unofficial ban” against him by the Kerala Distributors Association for releasing his film Comrade in America, a day before the organisation had called for a strike against multiplex.
Amal now tell us, “This happens because there’s hardly any democracy in these organisations. Now, it’s become a monopoly where they do as they please.
If someone has a different opinion - either you surrender or they will ban you. Seven movies released during the time of the strike and all seven suffered due to the unannounced and unofficial strike.”
The filmmaker also says that the intention of those organising these strikes are clear. “The funny thing about those in the organisations is that sometimes they aren’t active in filmmaking and if they are, the strike will be planned so as not to affect their releases,” he says.
