As Mollywood actor
Biju Menon turns 50 on September 9, 2020, the year is also special for him career-wise. Having made his debut in Puthran in 1995, he completed 25 years in the industry this year and started off 2020 with one of his most memorable roles in Ayyappanum Koshiyum.
The two-time State Award winner for his roles in Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu and TD Dasan Std VI B is also one of the most versatile actors in the industry today. Here’s a look at five of his films that prove Biju Menon can slip into any character with ease.
Mannar Mathai Speaking (1995)Very early in his career, Biju Menon left an indelible mark with his characters and none as memorable as the villain named Mahendra Varma in Mannar Mathai Speaking. He played the wealthy and scheming businessman, who sets fire to his wife and prove that it’s a suicide and goes to any length – even kidnapping Gopalakrishnan’s mother.
Meghamalhar (2001)In this romantic drama, real-life couple Biju Menon and Samyuktha Varma played two childhood friends who meet again years later. As a married man and a father of two, Biju Menon’s portrayal of his character of advocate Rajeevan brought in the right amount of maturity as he deals with his feelings for another person out of wedlock and decides to part as strangers in the end.
Ordinary (2012)In the past decade, Biju Menon has been playing second fiddle in most of his films but has still managed to steal the show. In Ordinary, as KSRTC bus driver Suku, Biju Menon showed why his comic timing is still as sharp as ever and his perfect Palakkad accent just made you laugh louder. The movie prompted several dual hero movies such as Run Baby Run, Romans and Anarkali with Biju Menon cast as the supporting character but drawing as much, if not more applause than the hero.
Vellimoonga (2014)Biju Menon’s Mammachan is as shrewd as they come in the world of politics. To expedite his ascension in his political career, he joins a national party that has no roots in Kerala. How the wily tactician uses his wits to win the election and also the heart of his girl make him one of the sure-shot ballot winners in this list. Biju Menon’s casting too had a huge role in how the movie’s story works. It was a movie that showed how versatile he can be and how filmmakers can use that to their advantage.
Ayyappanum Koshiyum (2020)Mundoor Maadan, the alter-ego of Biju Menon’s character of a senior police officer Ayyappan Nair, has a fanbase of his own now! In the movie about ego clashes between a cop and a retired havildar, played by Prithviraj, Biju Menon brings his A-game and razes hell (and a building) with it. In fact, one could argue more than Prithviraj, Ayyappanum Koshiyum was dominated by Biju Menon’s performance.
