Brahmapuram fire: Mammootty admits he’s having breathing trouble, Mohanlal calls for strict action

Mammootty has complained of breathing issues and cough ever since he returned from Pune. Mohanlal has also urged the authorities to look for a permanent solution to control the waste management in Kochi.

For the past one week or so, firefighters are busy in dousing the smoldering fire that spread on the waste heaps at Brahmapuram in Kochi. The fumes from the fire have deeply affected the air quality index and locals have already complained of respiratory illnesses. Now, seeking quick action and a permanent solution to the fire issue, Malayalam superstar Mammootty has requested authorities to do the needful since the toxic smoke from the waste plant is causing havoc on the environment. Another star actor Mohanlal has also reacted on the seriousness of the environmental disaster.
While speaking to the media, Mammootty who has just returned from Pune completing a shooting schedule revealed that he’s having difficulty in sleeping at night because of the poor air quality. The celebrated actor also admitted that he’s experiencing cough and breathing problems since his return and it’s not just Mammootty but many are facing similar difficulties in breathing and are staying away from their homes to avoid the toxic smoke. The ‘Christopher’ actor has urged the local authorities and residents to take proper action and find out a solution on how to implement proper waste management that won’t suffocate people in the area. He’s also worried to see the toxic fume is not only restricted to Kochi now and but it is spreading to nearby areas and other districts as well.

On the other hand, sharing his concern Mohanlal has also requested the government to find out a permanent solution. While speaking to the vernacular daily he said that this latest incident shows how carelessly we are handling waste management and soon these toxic fumes will reach all over the world. The popular actor also added that five years ago, he wrote a letter to the Chief Minister regarding the problem of Kochi’s waste management since it is getting out of control. Mohanlal admitted that it feels scary to see thousands of elders and children are suffocating because of the toxic fumes.
Earlier several other actors including Prithviraj Sukumaran, Unni Mukundan and Tovino Thomas had also raised their voice sharing their concern for the deteriorating air quality in Kochi.
