Mammootty's timeless classic 'Amaram' continues to resonate with Malayali audiences, celebrated for its engaging storyline, memorable songs, and the stellar performances of its cast. Among the notable characters in this
Bharathan film is Raghavan, portrayed by actor
Ashokan, whose performance earned him significant acclaim. However, a lesser-known fact about the film's casting reveals that Sanjay Mitra, known for his role as Rishyasringan in '
Vaishali,' was initially slated to play Raghavan.
In a recent exclusive interview with ETimes, Sanjay Mitra opened up about his experience with 'Amaram' and the circumstances that led to his withdrawal from the project. “I was signed on to play Ashokan's character in the movie. I was excited about the opportunity, especially since it would have been my third blockbuster in Malayalam after 'Vaishali' and 'Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha.' It would have been such a dream come true for any actor,” he said.
Sanjay revealed that just a week before shooting was scheduled to begin, he fell ill with typhoid. “My doctor advised me against traveling, explaining that being in the sun and in a new environment could be detrimental to my health. Unfortunately, I had to quit the movie,” he added.
Sanjay Mitra made his mark in the Malayalam film industry with his debut in 'Vaishali,' where he played the role of Rishyasringan. His performance was well-received, and he further solidified his reputation with his portrayal of Aaromalunni in 'Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha.'
Currently residing in California, Sanjay Mitra has transitioned from the film industry to a successful career as a realtor.
