We caught up with Remesh S Makayiram, the director of the upcoming movie ‘Lola’ to solve the mystery. In an exclusive chat with ETimes, the debutant director spills the beans about his upcoming movie ‘Lola’.
“We have adapted the name of Padmarajan’s character. But the movie is not based on P Padmarajan’s work ‘Lola’. Our Lola is a dancer,” Remesh S Makayiram says, clearing the air. ‘Lola’ marks the directorial debut of poet-writer and actor Remesh S Makayiram. Best known for his literary work ‘Gowri’, Makayiram has also acted in a recent television soap, ‘Mahaguru’, which is based on the life of social reformer Sree Narayana Guru.
“Lola is an intense tale of a dancer. She is a celebrated danseuse and has fans across the globe. The movie will portray a day in the life of the dancer, during the lockdown,” shares Makayiram who is also the scenarist of ‘Lola’.
The debutant director adds that the character will be intense, as there will be a lot to the character than what the audience could watch on the screen. “The movie will take the audience through the incidents that take place during the first two weeks of lockdown and how the dancer copes with it and the internal process that she goes through,” the director adds elaborating about the movie.
When asked about who will play the role of Lola, the director says, “Dance and music are pivotal parts of the movie. So we have signed with an actress who is also a dancer. Although I can’t reveal the actor at this point, I could say that she is a popular face in Malayalam cinema and also a graceful dancer.”
The director also says that the makers are hunting for fresh talents, including the supporting cast and singers. “As music and dance play a significant role in the movie, we have to pick actors with care,” Makayiram adds.
Detailing the production process of the movie, the director emphasizes that rain is just another character in the movie and hence they are planning to film the movie in June and July. Alappuzha and Thiruvananthapuram will be the major locations of ‘Lola’. S Sasidharan Pillai is backing the project under the banner of Pudhupurackal films and Sinoj S Ayyappan has been roped in as the lensman. The director signs off adding that the movie will be relevant to our times.
