It’s raining women-centric multi-starrers in Mollywood. Mullamottum Munthirichaarum director Aneesh Anwar’s Zachariyayude Garbhinikal will add one more to the list, bringing onscreen the story of a gynaecologist and the five women in his life. The director says that the movie is an entertainer, with actor
Lal playing the central role of the doctor and the confirmed female cast featuring
Rima Kallingal, Sanusha,
Lakshmi and Sandra Thomas.
“The story revolves around the gynaecologist and five pregnant women, from different walks of life and different age groups, who are under his consultation,” says Aneesh, who informs us that the casting process is still going on. Aju Varghese will also play an important role in the film.
Rima essays the role of a pregnant woman with an elderly husband; yesteryear actress Lakshmi plays the role of woman who abandons nunhood to become a mother; Sanusha plays a teenage girl who becomes pregnant out of wedlock; and producer-turned-actress Sandra Thomas plays the role of a married pregnant woman who indulges in an extra-marital affair. The fifth character, who is yet to be cast, will play the gynaecologist’s wife. Aneesh tells us that each character’s story is on a different track. “Rima’s character is humour-based, while Lakshmi’s is a take on a serious issue. The other characters also have different stories to tell,” he says.
With this year seeing a slew of women multi-starrers, ask Aneesh if the movie has lost its USP and he replies, “I think it’s a coincidence that all these movies have chosen to hit the theatres this year. But the audience would definitely gauge the content. Ultimately, that’s what matters.”
