Oommen Chandy passed away on Tuesday. He was 79. The veteran politician breathed his last at Chinmaya Hospital in Bengaluru at 4.25 am. He had been undergoing treatment for cancer. Mollywood celebrities including
Suresh Gopi, and
Tovino Thomas, have taken to their respective social media handle to pay homage to the veteran leader.
Actor-politician Suresh Gopi took to his Twitter handle and said, “Tributes to former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy sir!”
Tovino Thomas was devastated by the news.
He dropped a photograph of Oommen Chandy and penned, “RIP!”
Actress Shwetha Menon referred to Oommen Chandy as an ‘eminent leader’ and a ‘visionary’. In her Instagram note, Shwetha Menon penned, “Kerala has lost an eminent leader, a visionary, but for me, Oommen Chandy sir was more than a leader. I had the privilege of meeting him a few times and saw firsthand what a beautiful human being he was. No matter how challenging the situation, he faced it with a smile. A smile that gave hope and put anyone who met him instantly at ease - we’ve lost that smile forever. #ommenchandy.”

In his six-decade-long political career, Oommen Chandy has represented the Puthupally constituency in Kottayam district for more than 50 years. He was the MLA from Puthupally.
Meanwhile, Oommen Chandy is survived by his wife Mariamma and children Maria Oommen, Chandy Oommen, and Achu Oommen.
