When five ‘directors’ came together and did an anthology film under COVID restrictions, they found that by chance, they all seemed to speak about one thing — freedom. So the film, which released a poster recently, was titled Freedom Fight.
While activist
Kunjila Mascillamani is among those helming the films, one of the directors and recent State Award-winner,
Jeo Baby, says that it is not a “social drama or a revolutionary type of project”.
“These are important stories, told in a beautiful manner. The stories will serve as a reminder of how important freedom is in our lives,” says Jeo Baby.
Debut director Francies Louis has Jeo Baby and Kabani playing the lead characters in his segment. “It is a simple story about things that we encounter in our daily life and will be something that everyone can relate to,” says Francies, who was the editor of The Great Indian Kitchen.
Kunjila is thrilled to be helming an anthology with Jeo Baby. “I had asked him if I could assist on his project and he gave me this amazing opportunity. Also, not to be immodest, but I think it is high time that a filmmaker like me came into the Malayalam industry,” says the gender activist laughing. Archana 31 Not Out-director Akhil Anilkumar and Jithin Issac Thomas, who directed IFFK-film Attention Please, are the others helming the anthology. Joju George, Rajisha Vijayan, Srindaa,
Rohini and Sidhartha Siva play lead roles.
