Jis Joy picks his favourite performances of late KPAC Lalitha

Veteran actor KPAC Lalitha passed away on Feb 22, at the age of 74. Her demise is an unparalleled loss for the Malayalam movie industry. Filmmaker Jis Joy who has worked with KPAC Lalitha in all his past four directorials, picks his favourite movies of the thespian.
Speaking exclusively to ETimes, Jis Joy shares, “Her role in ‘Anubhavangal Paalichakal’ is one of my favourite.The chemistry she had with Sathyan mash was incredible! I love the songs from the film. Similarly her role as Narayani in Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s ‘Mathilukal’. She aced the character with sheer perfection, using only her voice. How amazing is that!”


Picking the best five from KPAC Lalitha’s oeuvre is a wild goose chase, since KPAC Lalitha has managed to breathe life into every character she played. However, Jis Joy tells us that one of his favourite scenes, where KPAC Lalitha made a cameo appearance in was from the 2003 film ‘Manassinakkare’. “Lalitha amma played the role of Kunju Maria, who is Kochu Thresia’s (Sheela) bestie. I think the scene where she brings a basket full of Unniyappams for Kochu Thresia, and returns heavy-hearted is impeccable. Even though she made a brief appearance, she managed to awe us with her incredible acting chops. Similarly in ‘Kanmadam’. The scene where she meets Mohanlal. I have always been in awe of her acting chops, and how she brings so much life to the character,” Jis Joy sums up.
