The wait is finally over as the 52nd Kerala State Film Awards are announced. Saji Cherian, Minister for Culture, has announced the winners. Revathy Asha has bagged the Best Actress Award for her performance in the film 'Bhoothakaalam'.
Revathy Asha essayed the role of Asha, a single mother, who has to face some unusual incidents along with her son in 'Bhoothakaalam'.
Shane Nigam played the role of her son in the film. A horror-thriller, 'Bhoothakaalam' was directed by Rahul Sadasivan.

The Best actor category is being shared by two actors - Biju Menon and Joju George this year. Joju George won the award for his performances in films ‘Madhuram’, Thuramukham', 'Freedom Midnight' and ‘Nayattu’, while Biju Menon shared it, for his outstanding performance as an elderly man in Sanu Varghese’s directorial ‘Aarkkariyam’.
A panel headed by Bollywood filmmaker and screenwriter Saeed Akhtar Mirza has analyzed the film. About 142 films were submitted for the awards this year, under different categories. Films released, both theatrically and directly on digital platforms were considered for the award, as a lion’s portion of Malayalam films were directly released on streaming platforms owing to the pandemic. Out of 142 films, 29 headed to the final rounds. It was a tough competition, for every category at the 52nd Kerala State Film Awards this year, as the jury members had an ocean of films to select from.
