M-Town's betting on lucky pairs

M-Town's betting on lucky pairs
Hit combos have always been a part of Malayalam cinema, and nobody can recognise one better than a good director. It was Sathyan Anthikkad who discovered the hilarious combination of Mohanlal and Srinivasan and cast them as the now iconic Dasan and Vijayan in 'Nadodikkattu', the magic of which was repeated in 'Pattanapravesham' and 'Akkare Akkare Akkare'. For a while, there haven't been such hit duos in Malayalam; but the trend seems to have picked up again. Check out who are the latest winner combos in Malayalam.Kunchacko Boban-Biju MenonThe two had acted as part of a four-member group in Vysakh's Seniors, but it was with Ordinary, director Sugeeth's debut, that the duo became a hit comic pair. Kunchacko as the newbie bus conductor, who is taken under his wing by the driver played by Biju Menon, turned out to be such a hit that a number of films betting on the hit pair are in the offing. In the upcoming comedy Romans directed by Boban Samuel, the duo will be seen playing con priests. Sugeeth's next, Three Dots, will also have the two teaming up again. However, the offers coming their way to team up are so many that Kunchacko had said they're considering taking a break from acting together!Jayasurya-Anoop MenonAnother unlikely combination, funny man Jayasurya and the 'thinking' actor Anoop Menon complemented each other perfectly as a paraplegic and a musician in Beautiful. Its director V K Prakash struck gold again by casting them in his next, Trivandrum Lodge. The two are said to share a good friendship off the screen too, which has obviously worked on screen as well. Nivin Pauly-Aju VargheseThe two were a find of Vineeth Srinivasan who cast them together in his debut, Malarvady Arts Club. But it was Thattathin Marayathu, which catapulted the pair to fame. Some of their comic dialogues became a hit with the youngsters, and the two are now at the peak of popularity. The duo will next be seen in Chapters.Murali Gopi-IndrajithIt was director Arunkumar Aravind who discovered the untapped talent of the two actors, and brought it all out through Ee Adutha Kalathu. While Indrajith played a struggling man driven to crime due to circumstances, Murali Gopi did a character which perhaps has never been essayed in M'wood ' that of an impotent and frustrated middle-aged man. Although the two do not share much screenspace in the film, they made the film a box office hit. Not surprisingly, Arunkumar has cast both of them in his next, Left Right Left.
