Renowned Malayalam filmmaker and screenplay writer Mohan, a pivotal figure in the golden era of Malayalam cinema, passed away at the age of 76 on Tuesday. Reportedly, He breathed his last at a private hospital after battling a prolonged illness.


According to Indian Express, Mohan had been under treatment for serious health issues for some time.

For the unversed, Mohan was celebrated for his path-breaking contributions to Malayalam cinema, particularly during the 1980s, a period often regarded as the golden age of the industry. He was known for his association with legendary filmmakers like Bharathan and Padmarajan in several projects.

His films starting from ‘Shalini Ente Koottukari, ‘Pakshe’ to ‘Isabella’, were revered for their poetic portrayal of the inner conflicts of individuals and the intricate values of family life. These themes connected deeply with audiences, making his works both critically acclaimed and popular.

Some of his other prominent works include ‘Angane Oru Avadhikkalath’, ‘Vida Parayum Munpe’, and ‘Mukham’. Each of these movies is remembered for its artistic depth and emotional impact along with strong performances. (Who can forget the iconic Shalini in ‘Shalini Ente Koottukari?)

Mohan began his illustrious career in the film industry as an assistant to legendary directors M Krishnan Nair and Hariharan, where he honed his craft before making his mark as a filmmaker.

Meanwhile, Mohan is survived by his wife, Anupama, a well-known Kuchipudi dancer, and their two children.
