Mammootty to join hands with Ranjith again!
Unni R’s short story, Leela, has conceivably been the most discussed literary work in Malayalam for its theme and controversial nature — the story apparently deals with themes of sexual anarchy. And movie buffs were delighted when Ranjith decided to give the story a visual life. But at one point, speculations were rife that the Mammootty project has been shelved owing to certain reasons.

However, the latest from the camp is that the project is very much on and that Mammootty himself will play the lead in it. Unni, who will be its scribe, confirms the news and says “Mammootty will don the character of ‘Kuttiyappan’, the protagonist of Leela. And we believe that the actor is quite apt to portray such an intense character onscreen.”
However, Unni says that the project might not take off soon as apart from the lead, the rest of the cast and crew have not been decided yet. “The film will take off only next year, and the project is in its nascent stages. Also, we are planning to rope in a newcomer to portray the title character of Leela.” Earlier, Ann Augustine was rumoured to play Leela and Shankar Ramakrishnan to play the lead.
Ranjith’s last outing in Mollywood, Kadal Kadannoru Mathukutty received lukewarm response at box office.
