After ‘Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha’, yet another
Mammootty starrer is gearing up for re-release. Mammootty’s classic 'Aavanazhi' is set to return to the theatres after 38 years. The film, which was originally released on September 12, 1986, will be re-releasing in 2025. The 4k version of the film will release in the theatres on January 3, 2025.
‘Aavanazhi', which is directed by
I.V. Sasi and written by T. Damodaran, was one of the biggest blockbusters in the history of Malayalam cinema during that time. The 1986 release, became the first Malayalam movie to complete 25 days in regular shows across 20 theatres. The film had a theatrical run for over 100 days, which was quite rare during the film.
The film has an ensemble cast of Mammootty, Geetha, Seema, Sukumaran, Captain Raju, Janardhanan, Jagannatha Varma, Innocent, Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair, Sreenivasan, and Sankaradi.
Meanwhile, Mammootty’s ‘Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha’ directed by Ranjith was re-released recently, however, the film didn’t fare well in the theatres.
The film is based on T P Rajeevan's novel ‘Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha’, Kerala's first recorded murder case. Mammootty plays the triple role in the film.

On the work front, Mammootty’s recent outing was ‘Turbo’. ETimes rated the film 4 out of 5 and the review reads, “Forgive the colloquialism, but Mammukka oru rakshailla. Having said that, equal credit to writer Midhun Manuel Thomas and director Vysakh for keeping Turbo charged nonstop, with a compelling, well-made mass entertainer.”
