Mammootty's action blockbuster 'Samrajyam' was surely a game changer when it hit the big screens in 1990. But it had faced backlash when the makers released the second part of the movie with Unni Mukundan in the lead. Now the film has stepped into a controversy just days before it's 4K re-release. Reportedly the original director has alleged that he was not consulted or even informed about the re-release of the Mammootty starrer which is set for October.
Jomon distances himself from re-release
As reported by Manorama Online, speaking out after receiving multiple calls from viewers unhappy with the clarity of the re-release trailer, Jomon made it clear that the producers never discussed the project with him. “I have nothing to do with the re-release of 'Samrajyam'. The producers never spoke to me or sought my opinion,” he said. Jomon’s statement came in response to rising speculation about his role in the remastering process, which he stressed is entirely handled by the producers and was not under his command.
History repeats after 'Samrajyam 2' confusion
This is not the first time the filmmaker has found himself dragged into disputes over the franchise. When 'Samrajyam 2' was released years ago, many assumed Jomon was behind the sequel, which was directed by a Tamil filmmaker named Perarasu who had directed several superhit films such as 'Thirupaachi', 'Sivakasi', 'Thirupathi', and 'Thiruvannamalai'.
