'Patriot' faces theatre release controversy

While excitement surrounds L366, another film linked to Mohanlal has run into trouble. The Malayalam film Patriot, which reportedly features both Mohanlal and Mammootty, is facing uncertainty regarding its theatrical release.
The dispute arose after the Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) opposed screening the film in theatres under its control. The issue reportedly relates to disagreements over revenue sharing between theatres and the film’s producers. The movie is currently scheduled to hit theatres on April 23. However, the ongoing conflict has raised questions about whether it will release as planned.Members of FEUOK told PTI that the theatres under the organisation would not screen the film because its producer, Anto Joseph, demanded a higher revenue share during the first two weeks of release.A FEUOK member explained the issue, stating, “However, the producer is demanding that the 60:40 ratio continue for the first two weeks. As theatre operators are already reeling under a severe financial crisis, such an agreement on revenue sharing cannot be accepted.”According to the organisation, the usual arrangement for Malayalam films involves a 60:40 collection ratio during the first week, which later shifts to 55:45 in the second week. FEUOK representatives also expressed concern that accepting this new arrangement could set a precedent. They warned that other producers might demand similar terms for big-budget films in the future.Producer Anto Joseph acknowledged the dispute and said discussions would continue. He also indicated that the matter would be taken up with the Kerala Film Producers Association in order to find a possible resolution.
