Director
Vipin Das, known for 'Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil' and 'Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey', recently took to Instagram to appreciate 'Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira', directed by
Althaf Salim and starring
Fahadh Faasil and Kalyani Priyadarshan.
The film, which didn’t perform well during its theatrical run, has been receiving newfound love after its OTT release. Vipin Das was among those who publicly recognized its artistic depth and praised its bold storytelling.
Taking to Instagram, he wrote, “Comanga!! Malayalam is the only industry that can deliver these kinds of concepts in movies. Whether it is cancer or depression, Althaf is one of the rarest directors who can narrate the subject satirically. How beautifully he packed and presented one of the most fearful situations called depression.”
OTT brings the film a second life
While 'Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira' initially struggled with both reviews and collections, its digital release has given it a new audience. The film’s subtle exploration of mental health, combined with satire and Althaf’s unique narrative style, is now being recognised as one of its strengths. Vipin Das noted this change in perception, writing, “I know that #oodumkuthirachaadumkuthira wasn't successful in theaters, but I'm damn sure that people will discover this movie after many years and will start talking about it.
”
Fahadh Faasil and Kalyani Priyadarshan played the lead characters in the movie which dealt with depression, suicide and other life struggles. Lal and Suresh Krishna's comedies were said to be the standout elements in the movie.
A heartfelt nod to Althaf Salim
Vipin concluded his post by calling Althaf one of the standout voices in Malayalam cinema’s new wave. “Althaf, man you deserve one of the top places among Malayalam new wave directors. Waiting for your next,” he added, tagging the director with a heart emoji.
