There is no dearth of new faces in Mollywood and the latest to join the bandwagon is Parvathy Ratheesh, daughter of late actor Ratheesh. The star kid, who has quit her cushy job to crashland in films, will debut through Sugeeth’s Madhuranaranga, a love story opposite Kunchacko Boban. The light-eyed actress shares her acting experience, working with senior artistes, comparisons being made with her younger brother and more…Talk about Madhuranaranga The makers met me in Kochi.
I read the script and before long, they finalised me for the role of a Sri Lankan who can speak only Tamil. I play a dancer who reaches Dubai. How she meets Biju Menon and Kunchacko Boban forms the plot of the story. As I am new to acting, I attended a two-day workshop and it was a great learning opportunity for me.
How was it working with senior artistes Biju Menon and Kunchacko Boban? I was nervous initially. The first day, I felt all of them had an attitude problem, but after lunch, I got pally with the crew. One needs an award for working with Biju Menon; he will make you laugh non-stop and when the director says action, he will easily slip into his role. But it was difficult for me to stop laughing. All of them at the set were equally supportive.
Have you visited a film set before? During my childhood days, my father used to take me to the set. But it was boring then; the same things being repeated several times. Now, when I am in front of the camera I can understand the difference.
When was the acting seed sown in you? I was keen to act from a young age. In school too, I used to participate in skit competitions instead of dance or music shows. My teachers used to appreciate it and I was keen to pursue acting. When I told my mom about it, she insisted that I complete my studies, get a job and then take up acting. I quit my job recently just to be in films. Initially, I was afraid to take up such a big responsibility of playing the lead role and spoke to my younger brother Padmaraj about it. He told me it is good to have some fear rather than being complacent.
Planning to pursue acting full-time? Yes, I want to take movies seriously. Right now, I have just one movie in my kitty. The second schedule will begin in Sri Lanka soon. I am waiting for the release of the film to hear the responses. If required I will join some acting courses to improve my skills.
Your younger brother Padmaraj has already faced the camera. Are any comparisons being made? His movie Fireman released while I was shooting for Madhuranaranga. The crew commented that your brother has already done a good job now it is your turn to prove your mettle. So the comparisons have already begun.(laughs)
Do you discuss films with your siblings? We are like two teams at home; the two sisters and the two brothers. My brothers discuss movies a lot but they don’t involve us in any of their discussions. Padmaraj and I do not discuss our scripts either; we take up our projects according to our own decisions.
