Yesteryear singer Gayathri Sreekrishnan has passed away at the age of 85. It has been reported that she took her last breath at the Narinder Mohan Hospital, Delhi after a brief and sudden onset of fever followed by a cardiac arrest. She is survived by her son, noted music composer and Indian classical flautist G. S. Rajan and daughter Sujatha Das.
Gayathri made her debut in showbiz with the release of 'Rarichan Enna Pauran' in 1956.

Her first solo playback song 'Thekunnu Nammaloru'. She also sang the track 'Nazhoori Palukondu' featuring Shantha P. Nair, which made her an instant hit.
During her long stint as an actor-singer, she performed with Tikkurussi and later joined All India Radio as an announcer and also hosted a kids' program 'Balalokam'.
She also composed and sang songs, besides scripting, many radio plays. She also had the unique opportunity to partner with the iconic singer Mohammad Rafi when he visited Kerala
In 1958 she tied the knot with G. S. Sreekrishnan, who was her colleague at All-India Radio.Her daughter-in-law Anjana Rajan is a Bharatanatyam dancer and theatre practitioner.
