Shaji Kailas meets Mammootty as ‘The King’ clocks 27

Shaji Kailas’ directorial ‘The King’ featuring Mammootty in the lead role has completed 27 years since its release on Friday (Nov 11). A political thriller, the film featured Mammootty in the role of Thevalliparambil Joseph Alex IAS, a District Collector. The film, which was a blockbuster plays a pivotal role in Mammootty’s career, and as it clocked 27, Shaji Kailas met Mammootty.
They commemorated the day by cutting a cake and having some quality time, walking down memory lane. Shaji Kailas has now shared glimpses of their meeting.
“Hard to believe that 27 years have gone since the most daring and irrepressible bureaucrat Joseph Alex I A S had reached you on the big screen. I am so lucky to celebrate this most memorable moment with dear Mammootty who is still as strong as Joseph Alex. Though Renji Panicker could not make his presence there, he made a phone call to us. Written by Renji Panicker, ‘The King’ also had Murali, Vani Viswanath, Devan, KB Ganesh Kumar, Vijayaraghavan, MG Soman, Kuthiravattam Pappu, Rajan P Dev, Kollam Thulasi, Sonia, Thikkurissy Sukumaran Nair, KPAC Lalitha, and Maniyanpilla Raju in some pivotal roles. Suresh Gopi appeared in a cameo role in the film.

The thunderous success of the film motivated the makers to make a second part of the film titled ‘The King & the Commissioner’, which featured Mammootty and Suresh Gopi in the lead roles.
