Siju Wilson-starrer Innu Muthal teaser shows a thought-provoking take on religion

The teaser of Siju Wilson-starrer Innu Muthal was out on social media today and it certainly piques your interest and makes you want to see it a couple more times to catch all the nuances. Because God seems to have a big role and like Siju’s character, we are taken aback when the temple deity disappears at one point. There is mystery and comedy woven in as the teaser unfolds, with a statement about "a man who bribes God".

Rejishh Midhila, who had a tough priest as the central character in his earlier directorial Vaarikkuzhiyile Kolapathakam, has written and helmed Innu Muthal as a fantasy satire . Speaking about the premise, the filmmaker says, “Religion is a sensitive subject to tell a story about and it is treated carefully and without wishing to hurt any sentiments and not showing anyone in a bad light. It looks at our beliefs and how we perceive God. Actually, the movie is seen from God’s point of view; why should God grant us the wishes we put into our prayer, and who decided what are the rituals to follow when we pray to God? Since it is a fantasy, we have put a lot of effort into VFX, with over 15 minutes of effects.”
Siju plays an uber driver, who is faced with difficulties, and is a bit of a fraudster, in a comedic sense. The film also has Suraj Pops of Kumbalangi Nights fame, Indrans, with Smriti as the female lead. Bollywood actor Uday Chandra plays a prominent role. Portions of the film show beautiful shots of the Ahalya Ghat in Madhya Pradesh.
“The film is ready for release. We will decide in a week whether we will go for a theatre or OTT release,” says Rejishh. Cinematography is by Eldho Issac, music by Mejjo Josseph and Jamseel Ibrahim is the editor.
