Malayalam films seem to be in demand as far as the remake rights are concerned. After Ayyappanum Koshiyum, Helen, Driving Licence, Lucifer and Ishq, debutant director Gireesh AD’s Thaneer Mathan Dinangal is the latest film to be remade in Tamil.
Gireesh confirms that the movie’s Tamil remake rights were sold last year along with the Telugu rights. While the Telugu movie was supposed to have
Anaswara Rajan reprising her role, we now hear that she will play the female lead in the Tamil remake too that is directed by debutant Hemanth.
The Malayalam movie, which revolved around a bunch of youngsters with
Mathew Thomas and Anaswara in the lead roles and
Vineeth Sreenivasan as the antagonist, was a feel-good film and was one of the highest grossing movies in Mollywood last year. Shabareesh Varma and Irshad also played notable roles in the film, which was also co-writted by Gireesh and Dinoy Poulose.
Thaneer Mathan Dinangal’s Tamil remake was supposed to go on floors earlier this year but the lockdown has forced the delay. The movie joins the long list of Malayalam remakes in other film industries.
Vineeth Sreenivasan’s own production Helen’s Tamil, Telugu and Hindi rights were sold earlier this year. The Tamil version has already gone on floors with actor Arun Pandian and daughter Keerthi Pandian in lead roles. The Hindi remake will have Janhvi Kapoor playing the role Anna Ben had essayed in the original, which was directed by Mathukutty Xavier. Ayyappanum Koshiyum is another project that will go on floors in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi as soon as the lockdown restrictions are eased.
