Vishu 2026 celebrations begin; Mohanlal unveils ‘Athimanoharam’; Mammootty, Nayanthara extend wishes

Vishu, the Malayali New Year, is celebrated with joy and tradition across Kerala and by Malayalis worldwide. Vishu marks the beginning of a new year in the Malayalam calendar that is usually observed on April 14 or 15.



Key traditions include Vishukkani, which is considered the first auspicious sight of the year, involving lord Krishna.


From film announcements to personal greetings, leading the celebrations in the entertainment world were Mohanlal and Mammootty, followed by a host of popular south celebs.


Mohanlal’s ‘Athimanoharam’ title reveal on Vishu


Mohanlal marked the occasion with a major announcement for his fans and the film industry.




He unveiled the title of his next collaboration with Tharun Moorthy. The project, earlier known as L366, has now been officially titled ‘Athimanoharam’.


The actor revealed the title exactly at 10:10 AM, sharing a poster featuring him in a police uniform. He also extended festive wishes, writing, "എല്ലാവർക്കും അതിമനോഹരമായ വിഷു ആശംസകൾ ." ("Heartfelt Vishu wishes for everyone.")



Mammootty and Samyuktha share festive wishes

Mammootty joined the celebrations by sharing a stylish photo on social media. Dressed in a traditional mundu and shirt, he greeted fans warmly. He wrote, "ഏവർക്കും ഹൃദയം നിറഞ്ഞ വിഷു ആശംസകൾ ."


Actress Samyuktha also posted festive content on Instagram. She shared a series of pictures in a saree and simply wrote, "Happy Vishu."

Her post received warm responses from fans. One wrote, "This is pure cuteness right here," and another one wrote, "Happy vishu." Another fan wrote, "manoharam."

Tovino Thomas and Nayana Elza join celebrations

Tovino Thomas took a creative approach to Vishu wishes this year as he shared a special poster for his newly released film ‘Pallichattambi’. The poster featured a unique visual of Krishna watching the film in a theatre setting.

Meanwhile, ‘Kurup’ actress Nayana Elza shared a festive reel. She appeared in elegant saree looks and extended her wishes.


She wrote, "ഏവർക്കും ഐശ്വര്യത്തിന്റേയും സമ്പൽസമൃദ്ധിയുടേയും ഹൃദയം നിറഞ്ഞ വിഷു ആശംസകൾ..." (“Wishing everyone a heartfelt Vishu filled with prosperity and abundance...”)

Nayanthara–Vignesh Shivan announce "Kannakuzhiya"

Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan combined festive wishes with a film update.


The duo announced the first single "Kannakuzhiya" from their upcoming project ‘Hi’. They shared the update along with New Year greetings for fans that read, "Tamil New Year wishes to all #Kannakuzhiya - First single from #HiMovie out on 21st April.
