
2017 is almost over and it has been an eventful year in Mollywood’s music industry. Some of our songs went on to win fans both outside Kerala and the country in itself, and some of them even turned out to be game changers. With over 21 million views on Youtube, Jimikki Kammal has been a raging hit within and outside Kerala. What’s more, it went on to win fans all over the country and even got termed the number one song in the country at certain avenues. Young and old made videos, dancing to its infectious rhythm. Sung by Angamaly Pranchi, the song with a folk touch became an instant hit after the jukebox release of the film Angamaly Diaries. Once the film was out and it became a sensation in itself, there was no looking back for the adorable ‘Theyyame.’ The song features the raw life of a handful of youngsters from Angamaly, their dreams, romance, friendships and more. The catch phrase of this song in itself became a thing of curiosity, soon after Lailakame was released as the first song of the Prithviraj movie Ezra. Written by B K Harinarayanan and composed by Rahul Raj, the song was sung by Kollywood’s hit vocalist Haricharan. The melody went on to be on top of music charts for long, and its romantic video featuring Prithviraj and Priya Anand also became popular once the video was out. Composer Bijibal’s magical melody touch was all over the song Kannile Poika, sung by Ganesh Sundaram and Sowmya Ramakrishnan, for the hit film Thondimuthalum Dhrisksaakshiyum. Rafeeq Ahammed’s nostalgic lyrics added a truckload of charm to the track, which features the love story of the film’s protagonists, played by Nimisha Sajayan and Suraj Venjaramoodu. When Nivin Pauly grabbed yet another hit this year with the film Njandukalude Naattil Oridavela, he also brought along a likeable romantic song, as always. Enthaavo, sung by State Award winner Sooraj Santhosh, is composed by newbie music director Justin Varghese. A song the perfectly captures the ‘butterflies in the stomach’ of a newly in love youngster, the song became viral even before the release of the movie. Enthavo is written by Santhosh Varma. Bollywood singer Arman Malik and Tabitha Chettupally were behind the mike for this soulful song, composed by Afzal Yusuff. The song was featured in the film Theeram, which did not make many waves in the box office, with its relatively new cast, including Pranav Ratheesh and Maria Yohannan. The infectious energy and magnetic lyrics of Emaanmare Emaanmare, from the film Oru Mexican Aparatha, belongs to band Oorali. The band’s song, written and composed by Renjith Chittade, has vocals by Shebin Mathew. In no time, it became a preferred song of protest by youngsters and even a female, independent version of the track was brought out in Pushpavathy’s voice. The Dulquer Salmaan – Anupama Parameshwaran starrer film Jomonte Suviseshangal had music by hit maker Vidyasagar. Its first song Nokki Nokki Nokki Ninnu, a youthful romantic song was sung by Merin Gregory and Abhay Jodhpurkar and it soon became a hit among young Keralites. In the voices of Shwetha Mohan and Haricharan, Ozhukiyozhuki from Oru Cinemakkaran is a song that anyone can take a liking to, right at the first listen. Yet again a Bijibal – Rafeeq Ahamed song, it heaped up views, likes and requests from melody lovers soon after its release, on both online and offline plaforms. Featured on Rajisha Vijayan and Vineeth Sreenivasan, Ozhukiyozhuki is a love song, portraying the courtship period of the film’s protagonists.
