P Jayachandran: I am surprised by these reactions for my photograph

Two days ago, veteran singer P Jayachandran, who stays in Thrissur, visited his friend in Poonkunnam, wearing a blue t-shirt and a lungi. While they were chatting, the friend casually said, “Jayetta, just strike a few poses for me; I want to take your photos.”
The 76-year-old singer flexed his muscles for the photos, while retorting, “Am I a wrestler to pose like this?” But he obliged, on the condition that the pictures won’t be shared with anyone.

The friend, however, shared it on social media and what happened next has been surprising the Bhava Gayakan no end, he says.
His physique, demeanour and moustache have been impressing netizens and Jayachandran says he has been getting calls left, right and centre. “My friends, relatives from the US, and even Agriculture Minister V S Sunil Kumar called me, asking ‘Entha ithu Jayetta? Did anyone morph the photo of your face on the body of a muscleman?’ I wasn’t expecting these reactions,” says the artiste, adding that he and the minister would be meeting up on Friday.
Many have been appreciating his ‘mean-muscleman-with-a-moustache’ look online, even comparing him to WWE wrestlers, and some even suggesting he has what it takes to play villains in films. So, is the singer into gymming? “Not at all,” he says. “I just do simple exercises at home that are suitable for my age. For years together, every day, I apply oil on my body before taking a bath. To ensure it is absorbed by the body, I do a few light exercises such as sit ups for half an hour. That’s all. I am also a pure vegetarian; I don’t overeat or indulge in fried food.”
In the music front, he has also rendered a few songs for upcoming projects of Bijibal and a few young music directors.
