Kaagar

Story: A young lad joins a political guru to work for him. However, he is also in love with the man's daughter.

Review: An unusual title, Sairat girl Rinku Rajguru's comeback and a political angle (that too in the time of elections); a lot of expectations were riding on Kaagar. But, shallow character sketches and a lacklustre story doesn't really go in favour of this Makarand Mane directorial.

In India, one doesn't need much skill to speak about three things- cricket, cinema and politics. Discussions about these happen at every nook and corner of the road. So, the fact that politics and cinema are combined here itself makes for a topic of interest. Many people misunderstand that politics is all about thundering speeches and oratory skills, and Kaagar endorses this very misunderstanding.
The film is about a software engineer (Shubhankar Tawde) who becomes a volunteer for a political guru in order to avenge the death of his father. That he is also in love with the guru's daughter (Rinku Rajguru) is another reason for this association. But the ambitious guru ruins our lead actor's life and, in turn, his daughter's life as well. How and why is for you all to find out.

While watching the film, you are plagued with many questions like who's the hero and who's the villain, or whether this is a love story or a revenge drama, or if this is the hero's story or the heroine's, or the most basic question- is this film about love or politics? Many of these go unanswered.

The way this film unfolds is disappointing. Also disappointing is the fact that a potentially good topic goes haywire due to the way it is handled. The performances are alright but don't strike an emotional connect with the viewer.

For a film to be worth viewing, mere vision doesn't do the job; the makers need to know how to execute it as well. That's where Kaagar falters and what could've been a great film ends up being just an average experience.
