The extended lockdown has led to financial crisis for quite a few backstage artistes and daily wagers in the entertainment industry. In such a situation, some of the well-known actors are lending a hand and also appealing people to support them. Right from theatre artistes to film actors are trying to do their bit.
Recently, Priya Berde along with son
Abhinay Berde distributed bags of food grains to the technical artistes residing in various areas across Mumbai.
"I took this initiative under our production house. We have also collaborated with two NGOs as well. We are being supported by Vijay Patkar and Shirish Rane. We are trying to reach out small-time artistes, technicians and other daily wagers who are working in theatre, TV and films. Since the shoots and entertainment works that were stalled due to coronavirus outbreak and lockdown, they are facing major financial problems. They have no way to go and it becomes our prime duty to help them out and be a strong support," said Abhinay.
Abhinay, who has been a part of films such as 'Ti Saddhya Kay Karte', 'Rampaat' and 'Ashi Hi Ashiqui' went on to add,"Many actors have contributed to the CM and PM relief funds but we felt the need to personally reach out to the needy people within our industry and do whatever we can for them. It is sad that film artistes don't have a job gaurantee. If they have to apply for a loan, they are unable to get it easily. This also adds to their stress. So, we are trying our best to reach as many people as possible. We also plan to Nalasopara, Virar and Vasai areas."
The Berde family along with their associates are planning to keep their initiative going. "We will continue to help people. We are little hopeful as the Unlock 1.0 has been kicked off. Hopefully, the shoots will resume soon and bring some respite to the small-time artistes and daily wagers who are completely dependent on this job."
