Amruta Khanvilkar, who has been a part of many Marathi and Bollywood films, is all set to play long distance runner, Lalita Babar in an upcoming sports biopic based on her life journey. The actress recently revealed the first look of her film titled 'Lalita Shivaji Babar' on social media.
Speaking to us about headlining a biopic for the first time, Amruta says, “We intend to highlight the trials and tribulations of Lalita Babar.

Not many people are aware about the tough situations that the sportspersons go through. I also feel that many sports biopics in Bollywood have done well, and it is high time to explore this genre in Marathi cinema too.”

Even though the project has been announced, the director and writer for the film are yet to be finalised. Amruta highlights that while the work had started on the project last year, it took them a year to announce it. She adds, "I had met Lalita tai a few years ago, and had even attended her wedding in 2018. It is an inspirational story that needs to reach every nook and corner of Maharashtra. We are sure to get the right people on board soon.”
The actress started her prep for her role about six months ago and has been working hard to achieve an athletic physique. “ When Lalita tai used to play, she would weigh around 45 kilos. Right now, I weigh around 52 kilos but I am certain to achieve the target (45 kilos) in next two months,” says the Chandramukhi actor, adding that she is now aiming to portray performance oriented roles. “I am open to playing fun roles, but I am primarily looking at strong parts. And I am okay with devoting as much time as required to ace my characters.”
