So is the Marathi film industry forming camps like its Hindi counter-part?
Umesh and national award winning actor Girish have come together for films like Vihir, Valu, Deool and Masala. The duo is currently shooting for the film Pune-52 where Umesh is the producer. Girish reveals, We have been doing theatre together since 1992-93. Today we are a unit. We have been through good and bad times together. It is not about being in a camp. Its more like we share a comfort level with each other.
Most filmmakers believe that mutual trust is what brings them and actors together for film projects.Mahesh who has worked with Sachin closely has given him prominent roles in films like Mee Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy, Fakt Ladh Mhana and Kaksparsh. Sachin has also featured in Maheshs Bollywood films like Astitva and Praan Jaye Par Shaan Na Jaye. Mahesh says, Sachin delivers exactly what I want. I dont have to take any extra effort with him. Actor Sachin further adds: Working with Mahesh is a great experience. I share a comfort level with him. I have full faith in Mahesh as a director and we enjoy working with each other so we do a lot of projects together.
Camp Card Most actors and filmmakers maintain that it is the comfort zone which compels them to work together. Mukta Barve did her first television serial Agnihotra with Satish Rajwade and since then has been a part of most of his projects. Ask him about the clique factor in the Marathi film industry and he is quick to say: The Marathi entertainment industry is too small to have any camps. Everyone is each others friend and wants to work together.

In the past there have been some successful teams which often worked together and were a guaranteed success. Dada Kondke had the same set of people, which included Usha Chavan as the lead actress, Raam Laxman as his music director. For playback singers it was Jayawant Kulkarni initially who was then replaced by Mahendra Kapoor as the male, and Usha Mangeshkar as the female playback singer. Bal Mohite was the chief assistant. Mahesh Kothare, Sachin Pilgaonkar, Ashok Saraf and Lakshmikant Berde were a foursome in 1980s early 90s. Kedar Shinde, Bharat Jadhav and Ankush Chaudhary too were considered as being in the same camp for a long time.
