Filmmaker Samit Kakkad has bought the rights of the Marathi novel 'Uchalya', which is based on the thieves community also known as Uchalya. The novel portrays the life of the community through the eyes of Laxman Gaikwad, who belongs to the community. Samit will bring the character to life on the big screen.
According to Samit, Laxman plays an integral part in the film.

He is not acting, but has worked closely with Samit on the script. ���������The story is based on Laxman���������s life and the community he grew up in. When I read the book, I was in tears. It���������s a story that must be told. I am glad Laxman sold the rights of the book to me last year. It���������s a collaborative effort and his inputs play an integral part in the film,��������� he said.
The community does not believe in caste or name, but worships the blade every morning. ���������I have stuck to the book and have not tweaked it as I wanted to tell the story as it is,��������� shared Samit. Interestingly, this is the first time Laxman has sold the rights of this particular book which was written in 1987. In the past, theatre-director Vijaya Mehta had approached him, but things did not fall in place. The film will go on floors in June-July and Samit said that he has shortlised a few Marathi actors, but did not want to divulge any details at the moment. ���������It���������s too early to name anyone. But it will be an ensemble cast of Marathi actors.���������
