Chinmay Mandlekar has acted, written and directed many wonderful plays that have been appreciated by both the audiences and the critics. And he is one of the well-known names of Marathi theatre circuit. He recently shared some throwback pictures clicked during National School of Drama days, on social media.
Getting all nostalgic, he wrote, "Year 2001.
NSD 1st year. This play constitutes some of my fondest memories. It was Shakespear's Julius Ceaser directed by Abhishek Sharma(Yes, the same director who went on to direct gems like Tere Bin Laden and Parmanu). This was his diploma production. Third year ke dada log.... all you guys were just great," (sic).
Interestingly, a few days ago, he shared his memories of his first commercial play titled 'Prem Gandha, which was a love story. "Today, while cleaning the house, I found my precious old memories. In Mohan Wagh's theatre company Chandralekha, we would get a schedule for 'Prem Gandha'. This is Tikam kaka's handwriting. Yes, this is his handwriting, not a font. Greats like Mohan kaka, Dilip Kolhatkar, Shanna (Shankar Narayan Navare) have left us but have left behind their fragrance of love," he expressed.
Some of his noted plays include 'Sukhanshi Bhandto Aamhi' and 'Bechaki'. Mandlekar was last seen in a Marathi film 'Fatteshikast'. His next outing his another magnum opus titled 'Jangjauhar' directed by Digpal Lanjewar. He wrapped the shoot for the just before the nationwide lockdown was announced. Currently, he has been regularly organising theatre-reading session with other well-known names of the Marathi theatre.
