Marathi film industry is fast growing in terms of economy and success. It has managed to inspire both the Hindi and regional films over the years. The regional film industries are also showing a keen interest in acquiring the remake rights of the films. Here are the top five Marathi hit movies that were remade in other regional languages.
Mala Aai Vhhaychy! (2011):
The story deals with growing surrogacy practices in India where women are used as surrogates by foreigners.
The film is an emotional drama telling the story of one such surrogate mother who bears a foreigner's child. The film won National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi in 2011. It was remade in 2013 in Telugu as Welcome Obama, with Urmila Kanitkar again playing the role of Yashoda.
Duniyadari (2013):
The film is about the journey of every one which eventually makes them realize the true face of life. The film was remade in Kannada in 2017 as Noorondu Nenapu and in Gujarati in 2017 as Duniyadari.
Timepass (2014):
It is a story about teenage love set up in 90's between Dagadu and Prajakta. The movie was one of the highest grosser of Marathi cinema. Its sequel Timepass 2 was released on 1 May 2015. This film was later remade in Telugu as Andhra Pori.
Lai Bhaari (2014):
Lai Bhaari is the story of Mauli, a rowdy young man who takes it upon himself to defeat injustice. It is remade in Odia as Jaga Hatare Pagha starring Anubhav Mohanty.
Mitwaa (2015):
Mitwaa is a love triangle starring Swapnil Joshi as Shivam, Sonalee Kulkarni as Nandini and Prarthana Behere as Avani. The movie was remade in Bengali in 2017 as Ami Je Ke Tomar starring Ankush.
