Babbal Rai to play Divya Dutta's son

Singer-actor Babbal Rai's next Punjabi film Maa will see him essaying the role of Divya Dutta's son. Though the film extensively deals with a sports-centric subject (athlete's life), it's not a biographical piece. Rather, it's from the perspective of a caring mother, played by Divya. The film will be helmed by by UK-based director Baljit Singh Deo.

While experienced Divya was recently seen portraying Pakistani Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai's mother Toor Pekai in the film Gul Makai, she impressed the viewers with her role of athlete Milkha Singh's on screen sister in the biographical sports drama, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013).

"Divya ji is a great actor. Besides kamaal di script, the film touches various emotional aspects of the mother-son bond. Intense ground rivalry will be there, but the film will highlight the emotional side more. Basically, it will talk about enormous sacrifices which a mother makes to see their children happy," said Babbal, who, for past one-and-a-half months has been on a strict diet. Even when we met him, he was seen carrying a special food item, which he ate under the guidance of a nutrition expert. "The result has been great. Now, I can flaunt my six-pack abs as well (laughs). It was decided because I wanted complete transformation of my body and be in best shape before running on a track."
