The Bollywood industry is currently abuzz with the success of
Vicky Kaushal starrer ‘Chhaava,’ based on the Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Meanwhile, Pollywood is gearing up for its own epic tale of bravery with
Gippy Grewal’s ‘Akaal’, set to release in April this year.
Written and directed by Gippy Grewal, the movie is based on true events. It will be telling the tale of Sikh warriors who didn’t back down from any fight and fought till their last breath for their land and faith.
While talking about the movie in an exclusive conversation with ETimes, Gippy Grewal expressed how the upcoming epic historical drama holds utmost importance in his life. “‘Akaal’ is more than just a film to me - it's an emotion, a tribute, and a journey that honors the bravery and sacrifice of our Sikh warriors who have laid down their lives for the nation,” said Grewal who in addition to being the writer and director, is the lead star of the movie.
“My team and I have poured our hearts and souls into this project, and we have worked tirelessly to bring this story to life,” said Gippy as he highlighted the efforts that went behind the making of this Pollywood magnum opus.
Last but not least, he expressed his expectations from the audience and said, “I hope you (audience) will l join us on this journey and experience the pride, and valor.”
Alongside Gippy, the movie is backed by an ensemble cast that includes his own sons Shinda Grewal and Ekom Grewal. Gippy and Shinda have worked together on the screen earlier on multiple projects. Their last outing was ‘Shinda Shinda No Papa,’ an entertaining family comedy with a social message. Further, other cast members include Gurpreet Ghuggi, Nimrat Khaira, Princekanwaljit Singh, Mita Vashisht, Jaggi Singh, and more. Nikitin Dheer is also a part of the movie. From the recently released teaser, he appears to be playing the main antagonist.
Further, the movie has music by Bollywood’s musical maestros - Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy.
The movie is slated to release on Vaisakhi, i.e. 10 April, 2025.
