This Day That Year: Gippy Grewal and Monica Gill starrer ‘Kaptaan’ was released four years ago

Now amid the lockdown May 20th 2020 hasn’t seen any action on the Pollywood front, but four years ago on this very day, the Punjabi big screens were hit by a Mandeep Kumar directorial ‘Kaptaan’.
The movie was a courtroom drama, which is a rare genre explored in Punjabi cinema. It starred Gippy Grewal, Monica Gill and Karishma Kotak in the lead, with Pankaj Dheer, Kanwaljit Singh, Amar Talwar, Rana Jung Bahadur, Umang Sharma, Daljinder Basran, Prince Kanwaljit Singh and Harsharan Singh in pivotal roles.

Another interesting fact is, it was the second Punjabi movie of Monica Gill, wherein she bagged the lead role. Her debut ‘Ambarasiya’ was released on March 25 and two months post that she was seen in ‘Kaptaan’. That’s not it, with a month after ‘Kaptaan’ her third movie of 2016 ‘Sardaarji 2’ made it to the theatres. Meanwhile, Monica's last outing was 'Yaara Ve'. On the other hand, Gippy Grewal was last seen in the movie 'Ik Sandhu Hunda Si', with which Bollywood diva Neha Sharma made her debut in Pollywood. Also, owing to the lockdown, all of Gippy's productions and starrers have been put on hold untill further notice.
