For one who has faced real struggle, who has given at least a decade to his passion of theatre, who has worked with the father of Punjabi theatre, Gursharan Singh, who is now considered to be one of the top upcoming actors of Punjabi film industryHarish Verma's journey has been fraught with struggles all the way. "I started theatre in 1999 during my college days.
And I continued doing till 2008 with
Gursharan ji. Since I always wanted to be an actor, I never thought of giving up or backing out. For me going to Mumbai in 2008 was a crucial decision but as they say, God has a plan, I soon got an opportunity to work in a Punjabi serial and then there was no looking back."
After doing the serial, Harish got a chance to work in the hugely popular TV serial
Na Ana Iss Des Mein Laado. His role of Avtar Singh Sangwan was hugely appreciated and critically praised. Finally he got his big break in Pollywood industry by playing the hugely popular role of
Jatt Tinkain the highly successful movie
Yaar Anmulle.
"After
Yaar Anmulle, I did
Burrahh and
Daddy Cool Munde Fool which were also commercially successful. Now, I have two films in the pipeline. One is
Viyah 70 KM (13 September) and the other one is
RSVP (Ronde Saare Viyah Piche). I have high expectations from both these films since you will see me in a different avatar in both of them."
While
Viyah 70 KM is based on a college love story, it has an eye catching title. "The title has been the most deliberated and talked about aspect of our movie and we want the audiences to decipher the meaning after watching the film," says Harish. About
RSVP Harish says, "I feel this film will redefine romance in our Punjabi industry. I can proudly call it as the Punjabi DDLJ (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaenge)."
Every actor has a dream role to play, so does Harish. "I have always wanted to play Shiv Kumar Batalvi, whether in Hindi or Punjabi. The reason why I want to portray this legendary Punjabi poet on screen is that his story needs to be told. It needs to be brought out and shown how real can a lovers' heightened passion, pathos and agony be when he is separated."
