Remember the beautiful Geetu Mohandas? She was Madhavans heroine in Moulis Nala Damayanthi and later, the actress did K Balachandars Poi
. She later got into the art house film circuit and did films in Malayalam like Adoor Gopalakrishnans Naalu Pennungal, Thakarachendu and Aakasha Gopuram. She says that she prefers doing meaningful cinema rather than doing glamorous roles in commercial films.
The latest about her is that shes turning writer and director with Kelkkunnundo, a 30-minute film on urbanisation. Says Geetu, The film delves into urbanisation and development. I want to raise the question if the so-called development that we see around us is what development is all about, who does it benefit? These questions are all raised by my four-and-a-half-year-old blind protagonist Ammu.
Geetu confesses that she took two to three months to write the story and it was her fianc, cameraman Rajiv Ravi (of Chandini Bar and Classmates fame), who encouraged her to turn director. Hasina plays the protagonist in the film and Geetu discovered her in a school for the blind in Aluva. We hear that the team took two months to make her feel comfortable about acting. After this project, Geetu will once again don the directors cap for a Hindi film, which will be shot in Rajasthan.
