I value my role as a producer the most: Sundar

Producer, director and actor Sundar C talks to Chennai Times about his forthcoming projects…
I value my role as a producer the most: Sundar
Blessed with a pleasant smile and a contented look, producer, director and actor Sundar C comes across as a charming person who believes in taking things slow.
Have a conversation with him and you realise that he also has an astute mind that helps him get his priorities right.
I value my role as a producer the most. Thats because there may be a time when I may lose my market as a director or as an actor.
1x1 polls
But my banner is here to stay. So, Im very careful about the films my banner produces. I may make mistakes in projects that I choose as a director or as an actor. But Im cautious when Im choosing films that my banner produces. If youve realised, my banner has a cent percent record, he claims.
And thats exactly why his next film Aindaam Padai has raised expectations.
Director Badri took almost six months to come up with this good script and it is based on the affection that five brothers in a family have for each other. I realised that this would be a good movie for my banner to produce, he explains.
We were particular about a strong star cast. Weve got veteran Kannada actor Doddanna to don the villains role in this film. Nasser, Vivekh, Saiprakash and Mukesh play my brothers in the movie and Simran plays a character with a negative shade. The movie also has Devayani and debutante Aditi, he informs.

Draw his attention to the audiences preference for new themes and he replies, As far as plots are concerned, nothing is new. Observe carefully and youll find that the stories of most successful films have a lot in common with the plots of films that are not as successful. The two factors that make a difference are the script and the treatment. That way, Aindaam Padai scores, and scores big.
The man, it seems, is not only set to score as a producer but as an actor as well. Apart from Aindaam Padai, he has, as an actor, two projects that are in the finishing stages Vaada and Murattu Kaalai and one other interesting project thats just begun Guru Sishyan.
Vaada, he says, was an unforgettable experience. I had to dip my feet in the holy waters of the Ganges in Rishikesh for the first shot of the movie. The feeling I experienced then is indescribable, he adds.
The actor, who has just recovered from an injury sustained while filming for an action sequence in Murattu Kalai, says, There is a bullock cart race in the film and the director, who was concerned about my safety, asked me to take a cart driver with me. I refused because I felt it would reduce the impact. I took a day to practise, and though I was scared initially, I gained confidence after a few hours. However, the bullock cart owners, who had seen me practise, felt I had mastered the art of riding a race cart and replaced the bull with a more ferocious one for the sake of speed. The next day, I had to drive the cart through a narrow lane for the shot. I tugged at the reins and the bull raced away, and to add to my misery, the animal got frightened by the shooting crane. The net result was that I was tossed in the air. I sustained injuries that required a month to heal.
Apart from Vaada and Murattu Kaalai, Sundar also has the laugh riot Guru Sishyan, in which he has teamed up with Sathyaraj and Vadivelu. Expectations are high for this film as director Sakthi Chidambaram, Sathyaraj, Vadivelu and I are known to excel in comedy. People expect a laugh riot when the four of us get together. We will deliver what the audience expects, he signs off.
