On Father’s Day, celebs from Kollywood talk about their favourite father-child moments on celluloid.PREETIKA RAO, Actress
One scene that stands out for me would be from the film Chikku Bukku. There is a scene where my character is contemplating eloping with her boyfriend. My father comes in and sees me packing and all he tells me is, You are free to leave if you want to, but think about what you are putting your parents (who have brought you up) through.
I get emotional and decide not to leave. On the other end of the spectrum, there is this movie called 10 Things I Hate About You, where an overprotective father doesn’t want his daughters to go to the prom.
SAMPATH, Actor
The one film that both my daughter Smrithi (12) and I enjoy watching together is Abhiyum Naanum. There are so many moments in the film, involving
Trisha and
Prakash Raj, that are so relatable. Sometimes, when we’re watching the film, my daughter would come close to my face, just to see my reactions and then go back to watching the film. Apart from this film, I also love the father-son chemistry explored in Aaranya Kaandam. The final line of dialogue involving the son and my character sends a chill down my spine every time I see it.
VETRI MAARAN, Director
In 7G rainbow Colony, the scene in which the father talks to his wife about their son after he gives them his first month’s salary is very touching. He’s proud of his son’s accomplishment, but the son is still under the impression that his father thinks he’s not capable of anything. I also love the scene in Thavamai Thavamirundu, in which Raj Kiran comes searching for his son Cheran and his wife. Another scene in the film shows the anxiety of Raj Kiran the night before Deepavali, when he still hadn’t bought anything for his sons. The scene in Em Magan, in which Nasser feeds Bharath, is also a good one.
AMALA PAUL, Actress
One of the films that I hold very close to my heart is the Malayalam film Thanmaathra, starring
Mohanlal. In my opinion, it’s one of the finest portrayals of a father-child relationship , on screen. Watching him play the role of a father who is gradually losing his memory always brings a tear to my eye. His compassion and humanity always remind me of my father.
