Directing a full-length feature flick made with close to Rs 1-crore budget is an amazing feat in Mollywood. Abhiram Unnithan, 24, and Jemin Jom Ayyaneth, 22, are two young filmmakers who are living this dream.
While Abhiram handled the directorial duties for Yakshi, Faithfully Yours ,Jemin cranked the camera for the film which comprised a team of friends - Aravind Chandrasekhar, Achuth Vinayak and
John Varghese.
About their debut venture, Abhiram, who has also done a PG in filmmaking in the UK, says, "It falls under the fantasy-horror genre but we have stayed away from the stereotypical version. It reveals a romantic side of the supernatural character." They say that their course in filmmaking had gone a long way in helping them complete the film in a stringent schedule of 20 days and maximising the role played by each crew member.
The flick features a host of debutant actors including Avantika Mohan, Parvathy Nair, Deepak Venugopal and Faizal with veterans Ambika and Devan.
On their camaraderie on the sets, Jemin, who took a break from his cinematography course at LV Prasad Film and TV Academy, says, "There wasn't much pressure. It was more like a vacation with friends and since we knew each other well, I was confident I could accurately capture what Abhiram visualised."
However, both of them inform that it wasn't a fine journey all the way. "We had trouble with the film associations wanting everyone to be members before we started the project. "However, right now we are getting good support and we are planning to release the film by April," says Abhiram, who is also the son of director Suresh Unnithan.
