The ‘miss goody two shoes’ is all set to play a baddie in Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Department’
. The city-born model-turned-actress, who made her debut in 2006 with the Allari Naresh-starrer “Kithakithalu”, is on Cloud 9 ever since she bagged a meaty role in Ram Gopal Varma’s “Department”. And she is more than just a pretty face in the flick — Madhu Shalini reveals to Hyderabad Times that she plays the role of a gangster! “In the flick, I am playing a very important role, that of a female gangster, alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and RanaDaggubati. She is someone who is daring, very ambitious and who will stop atnothing to get her way. “Department”, which is a film about thepolice/underworld nexus, is almost like the final part of RGV’s“Satya” and “Company” trilogy. RGV has given the film avery unconventional treatment and mood. It does not follow the run-of-the-mill‘hero-heroine-villain-comedian’ format,” says MadhuShalini. The excited actress reveals that she landed the role purelyby chance when she was in Mumbai. “It was a sudden development. I was inMumbai when I heard about the auditions and decided to give it a shot. Luckily,I bagged the role. I’ve never played a negative role, that too of agangster who is part of the mafia. I am very excited about it and find it verychallenging because I never thought I’d bag a role that was opposite tothe ‘miss goody two shoes’ roles I got,” shesays.Working with Ram Gopal Varma is a dream-come-true for her.“I’m a huge RGV fan.
I’ve grown up watching“Rangeela”, “Satya” and “Shiva”. In fact, Ihave watched all his films. I’ve been waiting for an opportunity of thiskind to come my way. I’m eagerly waiting for the first week of Septemberwhen the shoot will begin.”But she doesn’t want to staybad for too long and insists that she will not play a negative character in herfilm after “Department”. “After Tamil comedy flick “AvanIvan”, in which I played a college girl, I’ll be playing a gangsterin “Department”. I don’t want to be typecast in the industry,so I will probably play an out-and-out glam role or someone who is a completecontrast to my gangster character. I want to take up roles I haven’texperimented with to avoid being stereotyped,” she signs off.
