Director Mani Ratnam was honoured with the Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory To The Filmmaker Award at the Venice Film Festival on September 6.
The ace director walked the red carpet along with wife Suhasini, who wrote the dialogues for his recent release Raavanan, and Vikram, the lead of Raavanan (Raavan in Hindi). However, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (also a part of the director’s recent film), who were also expected to attend, could not make it to the event.
Venice Film Festival director Marco Muller had announced this at this year’s Cannes Film Festival where Mani Ratnam’s Raavan was screened. He had remarked, “Mani Ratnam is one of the greatest innovators in contemporary Indian cinema. He helped introduce the auteur concept to contemporary Bollywood. We are very proud to honour the work of the great Indian director Mani Ratnam.”
Mani Ratnam joins the illustrious club of noted personalities like Takeshi Kitano, Abbas Kiarostami and Sylvester Stallone, who were earlier recipients of the award.
Both Raavanan and Raavan were screened during the event. The two films will also be a part of the PUSAN International Film Festival, where they will be screened in October.
