Radhika who is awaiting her Kollywood debut says she hates to be typecast She made her Mollywood debut in a small role in Rajasenan's Darling Darling. But it's Radhika's character as Razia in the hit movie Classmates that made Keralites sit back and take note of this talented beauty. Radhika stole the audiences' heart again with her mind-blowing performance in yet another hit movie In Ghost House Inn.
She did act in mainstream roles in Daddy Cool and One Way Ticket but somehow these movies never clicked at the box office. And she got unnoticed.
"I don't know why but whenever I played negative character the movie became a hit," she says. At the same time Radhika is thankful for getting a chance to play such powerful roles despite them being negative.
"Razia in Lal Jose's Classmates and Marathakam in the Lal movie In Ghost House Inn really shook the audience. Despite my negative portrayal the audience loved me for my performance and I'm quite lucky that way," says Radhika.
But she hates to be typecast. "Now all the character that I'm offered are shady and I'm not comfortable doing such roles anymore. I did do the role of a Muslim girl with terrorist links in Mission 90 Days. I had enough of playing characters with shades of grey. Now I want to do normal roles," she says.
Radhika has been doing so many deglamourised roles that she says people hardly recognise her these days on the street. "The good thing is I can travel anywhere without getting noticed. But I don't want to hide myself forever," she says.
Luckily, in Radhika's Kollywood debut she is portraying the role of a student and won't be instilling a sense of fear or panic among the audience. In the soon-to-be released Tamil movie Udumbhan she plays the lead role and is excited about it. "I appear as a student and teacher in the movie set in a rustic background. The cast and crew are all new-comers and it was fun shooting for it."
In Udumbhan, Radhika is paired opposite
Dileep Roger, a biker racer. "The shooting of the movie got postponed several times because Dileep met with two accidents in between the shoots," she says.
Radhika is choosy these days and is waiting for the right script to play characters that she can easily relate to. "I'm in no hurry and will take my time before signing up my next Mollywood project," says Radhika as she signs off.
