The girl who helped Rajinikanth!

Actress Manu gives a peek into the Superstar’s Singapore diary
The girl who helped Rajinikanth!
Spending 50 odd days with Superstar Rajinikanth, and that too at a time when he was recuperating from his illness and not meeting the public, was one of the most memorable experiences for actress Manu.
Yes, the Kadhal Mannan girl was with Rajinikanth and his family in Singapore, taking care of their every need.
Talking to CT, Manu says, “Producer Jayakumar (of Singayil Kurushetram fame) has known Rajini for long and asked me to take care of his needs in Singapore.

I, along with Singapore actors Puravalan, Tamil Selvan and Prithviraj, gladly agreed to assist Rajini’s family in all possible ways.”
Manu and her team took care of the family’s accommodation, food, medical needs and security. “We rented a penthouse in Orchard, near the hospital where Rajini had been admitted. Latama, his daughters and sons-in-law were always with him. They were all worried about his health and so, I also had to make sure they were comfortable and got their muchneeded rest,” she says.
Talking about Rajini’s routine, she says, “Medically, he recovered within three weeks. He just needed to get back in shape. He used to go on short walks. But he was adamant that he didn’t want any security. But Latama and I were worried about him and had arranged for bouncers to secretly walk behind him. He somehow found that out and asked us to remove them. At times, he would have sudden cravings. One day, he’d ask for vadai and idli, and another day for masala dosa. He also used to discuss movies with Puravalan and ask him to get some DVDs to watch. Appa also shared with me his spiritual experience and the power of yoga and chanting.”

She continues, “We were supposed to stay put in Singapore until August 2. But Rajini insisted on coming back home soon because he was missing his land and his fans. On our last day in Singapore, Rajini met all those who took care of him there and clicked pictures with them individually.”
Manu is glad she got to be of help to the Superstar. “I never felt I was taking care of THE Rajinikanth. He was like a father figure to me and I’m glad his family treated me as their own. In those few days, I realized why the audience love him. Deep within, he is just an ordinary man who loves his family a lot,” she signs off.
