As the sun went down on February 20 over the grand Khandariya Mahadev Temple in Khajuraho, Delhi-based dancer Geeta Chandran emerged from the shadows of the pillars and inaugurated the world famous Khajuraho Dance Fest 2014 (organized by Madhya Pradesh Kala Parishad, Government of Madhya Pradesh) with her performance. The same morning, she conducted a dance appreciation workshop for Khajuraho visitors.
A celebrated artiste and performer, the Padmashri awardee is also known for her work in television, video and film, theatre, choreography, dance education, dance activism and dance-issue journalism. She also recently participated in a seminar on the ‘Changing Dynamics of Indian Classical Dance post-Indian Independence’ at Nitya Parva 2014, hosted by the department of dance, faculty of performing arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda, and presented a classical solo performance reflecting themes discussed in the seminar.
