For people in Chennai, Mahabalipuram is a very familiar place. For the rest, it is a must-see tourist spot. Debutant director Don Sandy, who is making the film Mahabalipuram, says that his film will show a different side to the coastal town.
Mahabalipuram is a place where you will find all kinds of people city folk, villagers and even foreigners. So, I decided to use the place as a backdrop to tell a story of five youngsters.
All five have different jobs, but during the vacation season, they double up as tourist guides. The film is about incidents that happen to these young men, says the director, and adds that he has taken up events from everyday news reports to script the film, which will be a comedy that turns into a suspense thriller post interval.
Vinayak, who has appeared in supporting roles in
Lee and
Vettaikaran, plays the lead while the other cast includes Soodhu Kavvums Karna and Ramesh, Karthik, Vetri, Angana Roy and Vrittika. Don and I have been friends for 10 years and we decided to come together and make this film, says Vinayak.
