Actor and politician
Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is awaiting the release of Magizh Thirumeni's Kalaga Thalaivan, which is slated for release this Friday — on November 18 — is also a busy distributor. In fact, his banner is one of the biggest in Kollywood at present and has released many blockbusters, including Kamal Haasan's Vikram this year.
Now, the coming Pongal is going to witness a big box-office clash between
Ajith's Thunivu and Vijay's Varisu. And Udhayanidhi is going to be distributing the Ajith film. During our recent interaction with the actor, we quizzed him on whether he thinks his involvement will give one film an advantage over the other.
Here's what his response is: "Not at all. Rendu perum equal stars. With
Sardar and Prince, too, there was no clash. Siva was coming off the success of Don, and Karthi had got a hit with Ponniyin Selvan. Nalla illadha padatha enna pannaalum oda vaikka mudiyadhu. I think we have had two big films releasing at the same time during a festival period. We had Petta and Viswasam releasing together, and recently, we had Sardar and Prince! Obviously, both the films will have big openings, but then, we have five to six days of holidays due to the festival, so both the producers want to release it during this time. And whichever film is good will become successful."
Last week, Udhayanidhi had reportedly mentioned in an interview that Thunivu and Varisu are likely to release in an equal number of screens.
