On Thursday, producer Aascar
Ravichandran, who bankrolled
Anniyan, expressed shock over
Shankardoing a film in Bollywood which is an adaptation of the 2005-released Vikram-starrer. Ravichandran claimed that the rights of the film belonged to him and that the director can't commence the project with Ranveer Singh in Hindi because of the same.In return, the filmmaker said that the movie released with the tag: Story, Screenplay and Direction by Shankar, and hence, he holds the rights of the film. Both of them had claimed their rights over the film through press releases issued to the media online.
After a while, director
Arivazhagan, who worked as an AD in Anniyan, took to his social media account to extend support to Shankar. The director, who is busy with Arun Vijay-starrer Borrder, tweeted, "As an AD of #Anniyan, I stand with @shankarshanmugh Sir #ISupportDirectorShankar." Interestingly, Arivazhagan had made his directorial debut,
Eeram, which was produced by Shankar himself. His next, Vallinam, which released five years later, was bankrolled by Ravichandran. A few others, too, took to Twitter extending their support to the maverick filmmaker with the hashtag #ISupportShankar.
