Countdown has begun in my head: Taapsee
Taapsee might have already had a couple of releases in Telugu but the actress admits that shes getting increasingly nervous as the release date of her debut film in Tamil, Aadukalam, nears.
The countdown has already begun in my head. Just 15 more days to go and Im feeling jittery. I listen to the songs from the film every day on the FM and I have butterflies fluttering in my stomach, she laughs nervously.
Aadukalam, directed by Vetri Maaran, has Dhanush and Taapsee in the lead and is set against a Madurai backdrop.

I play an Anglo-Indian, who is very much a Tamilian at heart. She suffers from an identity crisis her father and her grandmother want her to leave the country and settle abroad, but she doesnt want to leave India. She vents out her frustration on the guy who follows and irritates her. Shes a sober-looking middle-class girl, whos good at heart, says Taapsee.
Didnt she feel apprehensive doing a sober character in her debut flick? On the contrary, I was glad Vetri Maaran chose to sketch my character like that. Till then, I was only offered a typical college girl character peppy, bubbly and hyperactive. Its probably my face-cut and attitude that prompt them to give me such roles, but I didnt want to do just clichd characters, she says.
Taapsee is also delighted that she got to debut with two of the best talents in Tamil film industry. When I signed the movie, I had no idea who Dhanush or Vetri were. I was nervous about doing a movie in a language I didnt know or understand. It was not just Tamil, but Tamil with a Madurai slang! But Vetri was quite chilled out. He used to tell me that I will manage and gave me time to get my act right. Retakes never bothered him, she tells and adds, I didnt know Dhanush was Rajinikanths son-in-law until I met him on the sets. Despite coming from a filmi background, he had no airs. I saw people falling on his feet in Madurai while we were shooting there. But then, he would stay in the shooting spot and have his food with us. He was the first one to chat up with me; he helped me with the dialogues and calmed me down when I got panicky!

Currently, Taapsee is busy with Vandhaan Vendraan. But the actress will start signing other projects in Tamil only post its release. I dont want to rush things and make the mistake of choosing a bad script. Im taking my time now, she concludes.
